Rather you are a complete beginner who wants to learn kitesurfing in Tulum or an experienced kitesurfer looking for a nice spot to ride, you need to know a few things to get the most out of your kitesurfing vacation in Tulum.
November to May.
November to May is the official kitesurfing season in Tulum. This doesn't mean you can't have some days with zero wind on this period. But, it is, for sure, the best time to ride.
In case of non-windy conditions in Tulum you can chase the wind going on a kitesurfing trip to Isla Blanca (North Cancun) or El Cuyo (Yucatan). These amazing kite spots are just two and a half hours drive from Tulum.
Despite summer is not the official season, you can have wind and kite. Every year is different, but there is a good chance to have enough wind to start your kitesurfing lessons in case you are a beginner.
Light to medium spot.
Wind power in Tulum is light to medium (from 12 to 20 knots average). Normally, we ride with a range of 10 to 13 meters kite. Sometimes we use smaller kites, but it is not the rule.
So, if you have kitesurfing experience and want to bring your own gear (at least your kite) choosing a kite in between these sizes should work fine.
Tulum's #1 Kite School on Trip Advisor.
If you are a beginner you should find a kite school with professional certified instructors to teach you. If you are an advanced kitesurfer you should go to a kite school, check in, learn as much as possible about the spot, and specially launch and land the kite with proper assistance.
All schools in Tulum who work with certified instructors are perfect to help both beginners and advanced kitesurfers.
