PADDLE BOARD RENTALS

  • Can I rent a SUP board for half-day and take the board on my rental car to another spot?

No, you can’t take away the paddles on your rental car. The boards will always be transported by us on our truck.

We have different SUP activities to cover all your needs from an hour rental in our beach spots to guided SUP tours to cenotes, lagoons, or protected bays where the water conditions are flat and calm.

KITESURFING

  • When is the best time to come to Tulum for Kitesurfing?

The official kite season in Tulum is from November to the end of May. But we can start having the wind in October and also have good windy days during summertime (June, July, and August).

September usually is the worst month regarding wind and rain conditions.

    CHECK KITE SPOT DETAILS >

  • Can I learn to kite on my own? Or can a friend teach me?

Rule number one about kitesurfing is that you can't learn alone. You need a certified instructor; otherwise, it is very easy to hurt yourself.

Kitesurfing should not be practice alone. Kitesurfers need assistance to launch and land the kite. So don't try to do it on your own.

Trying to save your money with a friend is not a good idea either. Your friend may be a competent kitesurfer, but unless he has years of experience teaching kitesurfing, he won't be a good instructor. IKO certified instructors are skillful professionals who pass different tests to teach kitesurfing with the best techniques.

  • How long it takes to learn to kitesurf?

Learning to kitesurf is a linear process. It is not fast, as other water sports can be, but worth the time.

It takes from 3 to 4 hours to get to the board stage. Unless you are super skillful, you won’t be with the board in your first hour of lessons.

To become an independent kiteboarder takes between 9 to 12 hours.

Every student is different and has a different rhythm. We go as fast as you go. If you have excellent skills and you are “a natural”, you will learn very fast.

If not, don’t worry, the learning process will take a little longer for you, but we are here to help you. Go step by step. Focus on what you are doing, listen to your instructor, follow the training process, go on your rhythm, and you will end up kitesurfing.

  • How many hours per day can I take?

The average is 3 hours of kite lessons per day —the perfect amount to improve your kitesurfing skills and process all the new information without getting exhausted.

Every student is different, though. If you feel you can do more, we'll go for it. If you think two hours is enough for you, we'll stop right there. If you try one hour and realize kitesurfing is not for you, you can stop your kite lessons at any time.

    CHECK OUR STEP PROGRAM >

  • Which is the minimum age to learn?

There is no minimum age to learn a sport, and kitesurfing is not the exception. Once a kid is ready and feels the passion for trying it, that is enough. For safety reasons, it is recommended to start at least 40 kilos of weight (around 88 pounds).

Kids learn fast and easily. They are not afraid of trying new things. So, our motto is “let the kids be kids.” If they want to try it, let them try it. We’ll be right next to them, guiding, teaching, and making a fun and safe experience for them.

  • Do I need to be specially fit to learn?

You don't need to be specially fit to kite. You don't need to be a superhero to grab the bar and fly the kite. Everyone can do it with proper instruction.

Whether you are a woman or a man, young or old, fit or not so fit, you can come to our school, learn how to kitesurf with one of our certified instructors and have the time of your life.

  • I'm a complete beginner, can I learn to kitesurf with you?

Yes, you can learn to Kitesurf with us even if you have never touched a kite before. We all were beginners once. We all had to take lessons once.

Almost 90% of our clients are complete beginners like you. But you have to start someday, right? So do it now. Don't miss the chance to try it.

  • Do you organize group lessons?

No, we don’t. Our group lessons are designed for couples, friends, or family members who want to take lessons together.

  • Why are group lessons just with one kite?

Because Tulum beach conditions (not kite zone, full of people, beach clubs close to water, etc.) do not allow to have one instructor focused on two students with two kites flying. In the group lessons, our students share one kite while learning.

  • Where are the lessons? Can you come to my hotel?

Our kitesurfing school is located at Ahau Tulum hotel.

No, we can’t. All our kitesurfing center permits, and all our material is at Ahau Tulum. We teach at Ahau Tulum where all the gear we may need is ready at any time.

  • At what time are the lessons?

You can book your kite lessons in the following time slots:

    • From 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (3 hours)
    • From 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm (3 hours)
    • From 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm (3 hours)

We can also do lessons from 7:00 am to 9:00 am (2 hours) if we are fully booked or if you need to do it extra early to leave for the airport.

Important: Please note that this scheduling system is to organize our school & lessons. It's not mandatory to finish 3 hours of lessons if you are tired or want to stop for any reason. You will be charged just for the real-time of lessons you take, not for the period booked.

  • Is there a time of the day with better wind?

No, there is not. Tulum can be windy the whole day or only the morning or only the afternoon during the season (November to May), but we can’t tell too far in advance.

SUP TOURS

  • Can I use a life jacket on the SUP tour?

Life Jackets are provided on the Reef SUP Tour and the Ruins SUP Tour. But if you want to use one on any other tour you can ask during the reservation process.

  • Can I do one of your SUP tours if I can't swim?

The best scenario is people who can swim.

However, if you can’t swim and want to give it a go, we will provide life jackets, and we’ll be extra careful with you on the board. Besides, the boars are big and stable enough for not falling.

  • What happens if there is bad weather on the booking date?

Paddleboarding tours can’t be done in windy conditions. Strong winds affect the paddle and make it impossible to do an enjoyable tour. The Cenote tour is the less affected by the wind, but it can also be not the best scenario.

During the booking process, we will ask you for alternative dates for your tour. In case the wind is too strong, or the weather is bad, we will contact you before to reschedule your tour.

  • Can you pick me up from my hotel?

Due to local regulations and permits, we can’t pick clients from any hotel. Our tours depart from Tulum Town across from Burrito Amor.

The perfect timing for the tour is early morning, to avoid crowds, hot and mosquitos. But we can make exceptions and take you in the afternoon, departing at 14:00 hours.

  • How can I meet you if I'm staying in a hotel in the Mayan Riviera?

    • Renting a car for a day (you can have a good deal for a little car just for 1 day).
    • By taxi.
    • By colectivo (the cheapest option). What is a colectivo? Colectivos are white mini-vans that stop everywhere along the high way. They are entirely safe. You have to catch it on the high way in front of your hotel (actually on the other side of the road, to find the colectivo Tulum direction - south). Tell the driver to stop at AKI Super Market, and we'll set a meeting point close by.
